Federal Member for Grayndler, Anthony Albanese, has welcomed the announcement that the Infants’ Home in Ashfield will receive $1.7 million for a new Early Learning and Care Centre.
This new centre will generate 50 new local child care places and offer high quality early learning and care programs to children aged up to five.
"The Inner West needs one of these centres and the Infants’ Home has over a hundred years experience in childcare," said Mr Albanese.
"It’s an excellent choice and will benefit both parents and childcare workers in the local area, and is a fulfilment of an election promise to deliver Real Solutions to the people of the Inner West."
The centre is among 11 new Early Learning and Care Centres to be established in New South Wales, including an Autism-specific centre.
It is expected to be constructed in late 2010 and forms part of the Australian Government’s $114.5 million strategy to build Early Learning and Care Centres at 38 priority locations.
“The Rudd Labor Government is responding to the need for high quality, affordable early childhood education and care in communities like Ashfield,” said Mr Albanese.
