24/7 nurses

We're putting nurses back in nursing homes. We’ve passed laws requiring aged care homes to have registered nurses on site - 24/7.

And we've made a submission to the Fair Work Commission in support of higher pay for aged care workers, resulting in a 15% boost to wages for aged care workers.

Because older Australians and the families who care for them deserve a system that provides dignity, safety and comfort.

Food and administration

Labor is working with the aged care sector and other stakeholders to develop and implement standards for aged care homes to ensure every resident receives sufficient, tasty, nutritious and safe food which respects cultural, religious and dietary requirements.

We’ve also introduced laws that will implement the recommendations from the aged care royal commission, including more oversight of providers and stronger governance. We will require aged care homes to publish their profits and spending on food, administration and nursing.
