Climate, Energy and Environment

After a decade of delay and denial from Peter Dutton’s Liberals, Australians voted for action on climate change and the thousands of renewable energy jobs it will create. And with net zero by 2050 now law, we've already started delivering.

Cheaper and cleaner energy.

Our Government has enshrined a new emissions reduction target of 43% by 2030, and net zero emissions by 2050, into law.

The Liberals and Nationals under Peter Dutton have shown they don’t believe in climate action. They are threatening to pull Australia out of the Paris Climate Agreement and make us a global pariah.

In contrast, we are cutting emissions and building a stronger economy. It’s the core of our plan for a future made in Australia.

As the world moves to renewable energy, Australia is well-placed to take advantage.

We have the world’s best resources and workers, and abundant wind, solar and other renewable forms of energy to power our economy.

By connecting more renewables and battery storage to our energy grid, we can make the system more reliable for households, communities and businesses.

We’ve already introduced laws to help Australia generate cheap offshore wind power. And we are accelerating approvals for renewables projects across the country.

And from 1 July, every Australian household will be $300 better off from our power bill relief. And over 1 million small businesses will receive $325 off their power bill.

Protecting our environment.

Since coming to government, we have taken important steps to stop climate change, make environmental laws stronger, and protect and rehabilitate our incredible natural environment.

Our first Budget included record investments to protect, manage and restore the Great Barrier Reef and our unique Australian wildlife and threatened species.

And we are delivering Australia’s first national independent Environment Protection Agency, with strong new powers to stop environmental damage and better protect nature.
