We’re working with the Northern Territory Government on a joint $4 billion dollar plan to tackle issues in remote housing.
Our 10-year commitment to improve remote housing will see up to 270 homes built each year, with the goal of halving overcrowding. It also includes continued support for repairs and maintenance.
Partnering with community organisations on these projects will create jobs and boost local economies.
This is real, practical action to help close the housing gap.
The former government’s Community Development Program was punitive and it had failed. It has caused real harm to communities.
Our new Remote Jobs and Economic Development Program will create thousands of jobs in remote Australia, with proper wages and decent conditions, developed in partnership with Indigenous communities.
These jobs will build skills and experience, and deliver services that communities want.
Everyone has the right to clean drinking water.
We are providing $150 million over four years to support First Nations water infrastructure and provide safe and reliable water for remote and regional Indigenous communities through the National Water Grid Fund.
Reconciliation is a chance for Australians to celebrate the profound contribution that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples make to our nation.
It is how we deal with the injustices of the past and move forward together, united.
Our Government’s commitment to reconciliation is resolute and unwavering, and we are committed to all the work already underway across governments to create better outcomes for First Nations people.
