St Brigid's Celebrates 125 Years

St Brigid's is an important landmark in the local area with its great tower and distinctive blue cross but it also plays an important role in the education of local children and as a home for the Passionist Fathers in Australia.
The first St Brigid's church, which opened in 1886, was in a small building in Despointes Street in Marrickville.
Before long they had outgrown the church so in 1915 they purchased the current site, just up the road, and by 1921 the beautiful church so loved by generations of Marrickville residents was built.
I am pleased to be able to attend a celebratory dinner this Saturday night at Marrickville Town hall with the parish priest Fr John Pearce and members of the parish community.
