It is with great pleasure that I send my best wishes to all Muslim communities that are celebrating Eid al-Fitr in Australia and around the world.
Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, a month which many have dedicated to fasting, praying and performing acts of charity. It is an important moment that represents an opportunity for spiritual renewal and devotion, joy and gratitude.
Hundreds of thousands of Australians will gather to feast and celebrate with loved ones, as the Muslim community has done throughout its almost two hundred year history in Australia.
The celebration of Eid al-Fitr is a testament to the strong and successful multicultural nation that modern Australia represents. Like the celebrations Australians mark throughout the year it is a demonstration of how our nation is built on the beliefs and experiences of communities from around the world.
It is an occasion which draws together Muslims to reflect on Islamic values such as selflessness, charity, compassion and justice. In doing so it is a reminder to Australians of all faiths of the values we share and hold dear.
Eid Mubarak to you, your family and friends.
