Virgin Australia-Delta Air Lines joint venture
The Hon Anthony Albanese MP
Minister for Infrastructure & Transport
Leader of the House
Federal Member for Grayndler
11 May 2011
The Gillard Labor Government welcomes the United States Department of Transportation proposed approval of the joint venture between Virgin Australia and the world’s largest airline, Delta Air Lines.
The proposed approval follows commitments by both airlines to deliver greater capacity and improved services.
The Gillard Labor Government supports this joint venture.
We believe that it will be good news for both Australian travellers and for our tourism industry by increasing competition on routes between Australia and the United States.
The proposed approval of this joint venture builds on the Australia-US open skies agreement that the Gillard Labor Government finalised in 2008.
It is now subject to a 14-day comment period by interested parties.
The Government looks forward to the successful conclusion of the approval process.
