Media Releases
Wednesday, 8th September 2004
In a deliberate attempt to mislead the electorate the Minister for Employment Services, Fran Bailey, has picked up where her predecessor left off claiming that a Latham Labor Government would scrap Work for the Dole.
In her media release, Ms Bailey asserted:
“…no one knows what Latham stands for and its time for Labor to commit to Work for the Dole”.
Well Minister, that commitment has already been given – repeatedly.
Labor’s commitment to retain Work for the Dole was contained in our Youth Guarantee: Learn of Earn policy released by Labor Leader Mark Latham on 14 May 2004. I reinforced this commitment in a media release dated 14 August 2004.
Of course Fran Bailey would like Australians to forget that it was a Labor government in 1994 that first introduced mutual obligation into Australia’s welfare system. Labor obviously remain committed to this policy.
Fran Bailey’s dishonesty reveals the lengths her Government is prepare to go in a desperate attempt to win re-election and conceal the fact they have no positive agenda for the future.
