Mr Truss’s bridge to nowhere program

Today’s promise from the Leader of the National Party Warren Truss to fund the repair and replacement of bridges is yet another unfunded con job from a political party that had twelve years to do something about this very issue and didn’t.
Not only did Mr Truss fail to mention when his new program would begin, he admits that it will only happen if someone else picks up half the bill, namely the states, territories and local government.
Let’s never forget that for the entire period of the former Howard Government politicians from the National Party, including Mr Truss himself, held the transport portfolio and all they managed to achieve was to rip more than $2 billion out of the roads budget.
With such a poor record, how can anyone ever again trust a word they say?
While the National Party again attempts to deceive regional communities, the Rudd Labor Government is getting on with the job of rolling out our unprecedented $37 billion investment in the nation’s road, rail and port infrastructure.
Through Roads to Recovery, Financial Assistance Grants and the Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program, this Government is also providing local councils and shires with record funding to help them deliver their services, maintain their roads and upgrade their community facilities.
